Let food be thy medicine, and let thy medicine be food
-- Hippocrates
Pharmaceutical ads on television come with a host of side effects and contraindications. You can help your arthritis problems as long as you don’t have a heart condition and if you can live with dizziness, nausea and diarrhea. There is something deeply disturbing in the idea that to create health in one area of your life, you must create pain in another area. An alternative to the chemicals that make up modern medicine are herbal supplements. Humans have used herbs for their non-evasive, safe and gentle healing properties.
Because the government does not regulate herbal manufacturers, some people are hesitant to use natural therapies. Being in the care of a certified Naturopathic Doctor is essential for holistic health care. In addition, it is important to use a reputable company to purchase natural remedies. There are many companies online that seem to sell the all-natural miracle cure. I am happy to recommend Healthy Healing as a site selling high quality herbal products.
HealthyHealing.com sells the product line Crystal Star: Whole Herbs for Your Whole Health. The product information can help you select supplements. There is also a section for health information and articles. For current product specials, sign up for their newsletter.

Naturopathic Doctors
The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will instruct his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.
- Thomas Edison
Natural therapies are an increasingly popular alternative to the harsh chemicals of mainstream medicine. One of the most important steps when treating yourself naturally is to enlist the care of an educated holistic doctor. A profession that has been getting more press lately is the Naturopathic physician. These professionals go to four-year, government accredited medical schools that focus on natural therapies. They participate in clinical rotations and residencies, and have the credentials of National Medical Boards and state licensure.
There are four accredited naturopathic schools in the United States:
· Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine
· Bastyr University
· National College of Natural Medicine
· The University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine
One of the main principles of naturopathic medicine is to treat the whole person, not the symptoms of disease. For example, the manifestation of swollen joints in a body can be caused by numerous reasons. Giving medication to suppress the swelling provides relief of symptoms. However, Naturopathic doctors are dedicated to finding the unique underlying cause of swelling in the body, and then correcting the imbalance so that the body can heal itself.
This unique health care system utilizes natural therapies that are safe, effective and non-evasive. NDs may use a single healing modality such as homeopathy, or a combination of therapies such as nutrition, herbs, hydrotherpathy, and physical medicine. In addition to natural therapies, NDs also utilize lab and diagnostic testing to get a complete biological picture.

Welcome
My journey with a chronic illness began a few years ago, but it was only in the last six months that is has altered the course of my life. In my search for answers during this ordeal, I have come across some wonderful resources. Healing is so much more than a physical process. It is also a mental, emotional and spiritual process. I have found a multitude of resources that help me, and I am honored to share them with you.
For the longest time I have been asking why me, a common question for people who suffer with a chronic illness. But one of the most important things that lifted my spirits was getting out of my own personal drama. Building community, offering support, reaching out – this is the way to move from my incessant mind chatter down into the warm center of my heart.
So welcome to my blog and let’s stand together as seekers of a common goal: living life to the fullest no matter what our circumstance.
